Super Typhoon Ondoy, An Educator In Disguise For Those Who Forsake Mother Nature
The environment has its own means of making humankind comprehend what we have done; and it was confirmed by what had transpired in the Philippines just a couple of weeks ago. Even though the alterations in the everyday weather was very noticeable, it was not until the super typhoon “Ondoy’s” influx that people became aware of the aberrant and colossal disparity.According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Ondoy was classified as a category 5 super typhoon. The typhoon entered the Philippine area of responsibility and hit the land on September 29. The wind was not very much alarming; but it was the hard and excess of rain that caused all the catastrophe and damage of several regions in Luzon (one of the main Philippine islands). Evaluation proves that the amount of rainfall on that very same day was naturally the average rainfall for a month; you can just imagine the quantity of water the sky had poured. Because of the immense amount of water, many regional dams have to discharge the water they hold for some had almost reached critical levels of spilling over. This aggravated the situation for those who live in the vicinity of these dams.
Municipalities were not primed for this kind of force majeure experience[/spin. A number of provinces in regions IV and V and the Philippine’s capital, Manila, were flooded and [spin]submerged. In a lot of areas, the water rose to knee, waist or chest level; but for several worst cases in low lands, the water sank down houses and establishments. Transportation was not possible. Transactions and businesses were frozen. Schools were ruined and some were turned into evacuation centers. Soil erosion is happening making the flowing water mucky and the agricultural vicinities are nowhere to be found. Screams, cries and panic are all over. The rain prolonged for several days until finally the rain had stopped and man was able to see clearly the damage done. Losing assets - houses, cars and businesses are somehow acceptable but the lost of a family member or a friend or of just someone you know is something that will create a scar in your memory forever.
It was out of the question to fight the force of nature. Although even from the start up to the present that rescues and aids are seen everywhere, many lives were already taken and bodies gone missing, inexact when to find them or if they will ever be found. Nobody can impugn anyone for what transpired; only that everyone knows deep in their hearts that everybody was to be censured and is guilty. This incident is really painful but it is the same incident that should show everyone involved, or not, a priceless lesson that we all should take with us for the rest of our limited lives. Our being and the whole thing about it is something we didn’t make out of our own and there is Someone that is so smart who did, so why forsake it?-cait
